A shallow creek with one leaning gum tree, a lookout rock, a hollow log and a bend full of puddles, where eight friends decide every day whether to check first, go first, or just plop in.

Skip and Tock want the noisy place to stay theirs, and the quiet friends need it too.
A dry, low shelf under an exposed root, lined with Cinder's found treasures: a curled bark strip, three pale snail shells, one shiny seed pod, each set down very carefully. A slice of warm light reaches only the front edge.
Ownership and consent: the thing somebody needs is inside somebody else's collection.
Cinder wants everyone to admire her discoveries and nobody to touch them, and she cannot have both.
Thick gum-tree roots rise from the bank in three broad dusty steps, one smooth amber gum bead caught in a crack. Morning light stripes them through the leaves.
Scale reversal: the gaps that let the small friends run through are the gaps that stop the big ones.
Nix wants to reach the top first, and the only route that gets everyone up is the one where each of them climbs differently.

A wide glassy strip of dark creek mud beside the bend, so smooth it keeps every paw print and fin trail all day. A pale driftwood branch lies along one side like an edge everybody agreed to.
A boundary with a reason: the rule holds when nobody is watching, or the thing it protects is gone.
Cinder wants a closer look at the strange tracks, and stepping closer is what erases them.
A badly woven pad of reeds and thin sticks the friends tied together and laid over a soft muddy patch. One corner is always curled up, and a red-orange reed knot marks the middle. It is only a few paw-lengths long.
A shared thing built badly: it fails because each of them built their own end of it.
Tock wants everyone to cross on her count, and the walk only holds steady when they stop moving together.

Where the leaning gum tree splits, two thick branches make a wide Y, a smooth worn saddle of bark high enough to see the whole bank but only a short hop up from it. Seen from branch height, with pale leaves and open sky behind and the creek small below. A few dry leaves have caught in the crook.
Hiding that turns into asking: a private place somebody else is allowed to sit near.
Hush wants to disappear completely and wants somebody close enough to hear him whisper.
The creek slips over a low shelf of honey-coloured stone, no higher than Bramble's paw, into a clear ankle-deep pool, bubbles gathered round one trapped pebble. Late light turns the falling sheet bright silver.
The same small obstacle read three ways: thrilling, annoying, or far too loud.
Nix wants the first jump through the falling water, and Hush needs to know exactly where every splash will land.
